This week we’d like to share a website and some data collection/polling apps with you.
The website is PBS Learning Media (http://www.emediava.org/pbs/). This is a video and photo-rich artifact site that is much like Safari Montage. You can search by SOL or subject and find videos and other artifacts for use in your classroom/flipped classroom. You can make a playlist with the items you find and wish to use or review.
Agnostic Apps – these are apps and websites that work across devices. Students can use them regardless of their device or smartphone format. You have probably heard of some of these and others might be new to you. Check them out!
Poll Everywhere (www.polleverywhere.com). This is, obviously, a polling tool. The free version allows for 40 responses. It allows students to access and respond when connected to the internet; if used in the classroom, everyone can see the feedback as it comes in. Can make multiple choice and short response questions. Free app.
AnswerGarden (http://answergarden.ch). Similar to Poll Everywhere, but designed more for open-ended questions. Responses to questions appear in a word cloud format and the most popular answers appear in the largest size (similar to Wordle). No limit on the number of responses, and free. Great tool for brainstorming and assessing what students know about a subject (great KWL tool).
Socrative (www.socrative.com). Allows interaction with phones, laptops, tablets, and computers. It's easy to set up and has formats such as true/false/short answer, multiple choice and polling. An Excel template is provided for you to upload quiz questions. Data collection is possible here with online viewing of a Google document or an emailed Excel file. Students do not need an account but can login to their teacher’s room. Currently free; has teacher and student apps.
Kahoot (https://getkahoot.com). Another free polling/quiz/discussion website that is free.
